As we walk through life, interruptions seem to be so overwhelming at times. You are not sure how this day is going to turn out and not sure if where you are going is correct? You're not sure how to deal with the attacks, mean words, demeaning expressions or the chaos around? We have a God who is sovereign and sees all. Since he sees all and knows all he is our shield constantly throughout every moment of the day, week, month and year. Psalms 3:3 states "But You, O LORD are a shield for me, my glory and the lifter of my head." Oftentimes we do not recognize in the moment the LORD is acting. He is. Let me share a story about how God was a shield for four young men even in their recklessness. This recklessness took place one Saturday morning during Youth group breakfast round up. We were out and about going to various homes to invite fellow high school friends to breakfast as an outreach for our church youth group. We were at our last stop, because the vehicle we were in was almost to capacity (we could only fit one more). The individual we were inquiring about was not home and we knew time was short and needed to meet up with all the others for breakfast. Like a lot of young men we loved the need for speed (yes a little Tom Cruise humor - Top Gun). Upon leaving the home we were traveling through a canyon, a fun canyon to test the limits of one's vehicle. My good friend was driving, two more friends in the back seat and I was riding shotgun (passenger seat). As we crested the hill and headed down to a long sweeping left turn (doing about 100mph), God's gentle nudging led me to lock my knees in the dash and grab the door handle. Not sure why at the moment but I did. This sweeping left turn was too much for the vehicle and driver. My good friend lost control, but God shielded us. We avoided the mountain on the right through the turn, but shot across the road and hit the carved out section of the mountain on the left. God's divine providence at work in shielding us. There was no oncoming traffic, we missed going over the cliff by about 30 ft. and once the vehicle came to a complete stop, each individual had their lives shielded by God alone. The three passengers had slight injuries, a cut on the leg as if it was scrapped up against a sharp edge to a bump on the head for one of the backseat passengers. The driver sustained the worst injury- a broken jaw.  God shielded us. In the book of Psalms we have several references showing us God is our Shield.
Psalms 3:3 "… O LORD, you are a shield for me…"
Psalms 18:30 "…He is a shield for all those who take refuge in him."
Psalms 7:10 "My shield is with God,…"
Psalms 33:20 "…He is our help and our shield."
Psalms 119:114 "You are my hiding place and my shield; I hope in your word."
Psalms 144:2 "… My shield and he in whom I take refuge, who subdues people under me."
